Shoe Boxes for Seniors
Posted almost 8 years ago by Christy Lenahan
This year our Christmas Philanthropy Project will be Shoe Boxes for Seniors.
"There are thousands of senior citizens in the Acadiana area in nursing homes, assisted living facilities and living alone, who spend Christmas like any other day. Many receive no gifts during the holiday season or visitors as most of their loved ones are scarce or have passed on. A shoe box may not seem like a lot, but the smiles brought to otherwise unhappy faces, says differently."
I am requesting/challenging each one of you to fill one or two shoe boxes with the following items:
- Word Puzzles or Cards (Any Mind-stimulating Game)
- Lotions and Soaps
- Socks (With Grips)
- Scarves
- Coloring Books (Including Colors)
- Wipes
- Scarves
- Or any other item that you feel will benefit seniors in our area
Don't worry about wrapping the box, I am happy to take it as is. Also, if you are like me and throw all your shoe boxes away - you can buy a clear tupperware container similar in size and shape to a shoe box from any dollar store.
We have 157 active members in this region, so I would love to collect at least 157 shoe boxes. Our next meeting is scheduled for November 30th and you can bring in your shoe boxes on that day or text me at 337-319-6277 and I will meet at a location that is convenient for you to collect your shoe boxes.
I will stop collecting on December 12th. Thank you in advance for your help with this project!
