LANP Christmas Philanthropy
Posted almost 11 years ago by Leslie Guilbeaux
Ready or not Christmas is around the corner! Each year, in the spirit of the holiday season, the Lafayette Region of LANP donates to a local charity. We have particpated in the Salvation Army Angel Tree in past years. However, this year we are venturing to a new charity. We will be donating funds collected at the next 2 meetings to the Healing House.
When children attend sessions at Healing House the parents are asked to attend a class also. One night a year (around Christmas time) the healing house has a "Caregivers Night Out" that allows the hardworking caregivers to have time to themselves. This event includes crafts, pizza, prizes & a ride to look at Christmas lights. At the next 2 meeting we will pass around the 'Christmas Basket" & LANP will help to sponsor this party with the funds we collect. Please bring your donations to the November & December meetings. If anyone would like to mail funds to me for donation please email me at leslieguilbeaux@gmail.com.
Here's a little more information about the Healing House & it's services:
The Healing House, formerly The Grief Center of Southwest Louisiana, is a non-profit agency focused on helping children ages 4-17 through grief issues in a group atmosphere. The program currently has 120 children dealing with the death of either a parent, guardian or sibling. The Healing House does not provide counseling or therapy, but a safe place, where children who have experienced a death of a loved one can express their thoughts and feelings in a variety of ways. The Healing House also offers a death response team. This team responds to death of teachers or students in a school setting to support the grieving children.
In support groups facilitated by volunteers, children learn to express their grief through interactive play, expressive art work and discussion groups with peers experiencing the same trauma. The house has the cozy feel of "Grandma's Cottage". Although Healing House is geared toward children, parents will also find a place to talk and share feelings with others in their situation or spend quiet time reading on the enclosed porch or in the meditation garden.
All services are available free of charge and run by trained volunteers.
Please help us give back this holiday season & let's make our contribution as great as our LANP organziation!
